Amnesty International is an international movement made up of over 7 million people who dedicate themselves to protecting and promoting human rights. We are active in the Global North and Global South. In Italy, our organization has about 500.000 supporters and 2.000 activists.


In our Campaigning Unit, our task is to develop human rights campaigns which can bring a positive impact on laws, practices, and people’s lives in Italy and beyond.


Posizione

We are looking for a Research and Campaigns Senior Officer who wants to contribute to ensure that our desk-based and in field research are carried out to the highest standard to support the delivery and dissemination of research.


The role involves, but is not limited to, the following functions:


  1. Design and implement high quality processes across our research portfolio, in particular about the right to protest (freedom of assembly and expression) and the repression of dissent in Italy, conducting investigation and evaluating human rights developments in order to provide accurate assessments, through field and remote interviews, fact-finding, analysis;
  2. Collaborate with Core Business colleagues to develop creative and effective strategies for change, in particular within the framework of the international campaign on the right to protest.
  3. Undertaking ad hoc research on specific topics as required.
  4. Liaise with civil society organizations, right-holders, institutions, Amnesty International staff and activists and other relevant stakeholders to establish and manage effective partnerships and networks for our fights for human rights.


In collaboration with other workers the holder of this position will have these responsibilities:


  1. Working with Communication Unit and Spokesperson Unit colleagues to disseminate research and capture learning generated through our research findings.
  2. Create and disseminate ad-hoc documents and materials for activists and members and coordinate activities with Activism Unit and HRE Unit colleagues.
  3. Provide quantitative and qualitative reports on the progress towards project objectives to evaluate researches and actions in collaboration with the Project Learning, Design and Evaluation Officer.
  4. Ensure the participation of relevant stakeholders and take into account Amnesty Italy’s overall plans, policies, and position papers.


Other key relationships:


Establish and manage partnerships and effective communication with civil society organizations, institutions and agencies, media, right-holders, Amnesty International staff and activists and other relevant stakeholders.

Technical knowledge



  1. Confident in both desk-based and in field research methodologies, as well as on strategic campaigning. Ability to deal in a sensitive and understanding manner with a variety of people together with the ability to gather, analyse and synthesize key information, learning from a variety of sources.
  2. Deep knowledge of Amnesty International policies, research methodology, approaches, tools, and methods.
  3. Effective communication skills, both written and oral, in Italian and English. Proven experience of writing research materials for a variety of audiences.

Reporting to: Head of Campaigning


Contract: full time, maternity leave replacement.

Gross Annual Salary: from € 27.000 to € 30.000 (based on qualification and work experience).
